WILDWOOD— The Wildwood Historical Society is holding an open house to welcome locals and visitors alike to their revamped and updated museum on Saturday, October 13.
Volunteers at the George Boyer Museum, located at 3907 Pacific Avenue, have spent months updating the ever-growing collection with memorabilia donated by visitors throughout the year. The museum had its busiest season on record this year thanks to plenty of rainy days, therefore many patrons paid visits with artifacts to donate.
The museum’s latest additions come from notable places in Wildwood’s past: Zaberer’s Restaurant, Pacific Avenue nightclubs, the Grassy Sound Bridge, Castle Dracula, Hunt’s Pier, fire and police departments and even items related to Wildwood women’s history.
The museum now has never-before-seen antique home movies of Wildwood between the 1930s and 1970s. They will be played during the open house.
“These movies and artifacts were provided by families who grew up during the early days of Wildwood,” said museum manager Pam Bross. “They selflessly give their history to us so that we can share it with a wide audience.”
Past open houses have attracted hundreds of local celebrities and famous names of Wildwood history. Refreshments will be served. Admission is free, but donations keep the Wildwood Historical Society in operation. The society is currently collecting monetary donations for its New Roof/Siding fund at www.gofundme.com/new-roof-for-wildwood-nj-museum
The Wildwood Historical Society is a nonprofit that is independent of the City of Wildwood. They are open Monday-Saturday 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in September, and Thursdays-Saturday 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in October. After October, the museum closes for the winter.
