After the name change of the municipality from Anglesea to North Wildwood in 1906, this island community continued to grow at a rapid rate, with the Hereford Inlet fishing industry dominating business in the north end, and the southern half of the Borough welcoming an increase in population and development. Businessmen like Henry Ottens and Peter Verga joined the marketing efforts of the Five Mile Beach communities to make  the area a well known and attractive resort. Hereford Inlet’s dangerous currents and advancing erosion hampered efforts to maintain stability for life and property. Attempts at consolidation of the island’s communities continued for decades but achieved only partial success, with Anglesea/North Wildwood maintaining its individuality until the present. The City form of government, adopted by the voters in 1917, continues to be the form of local government under which North Wildwood operates today.
